Practice.

Each project presented to us, is fundamentally your project and your vision — our intention is to unearth and build on this vision, together creating a space that is a true reflection of you.

We create homes connecting you with nature. In those tiny moments — when the sun is setting and the house is quiet — we want you to feel calm and still.

Lightly touching the earth, our buildings exist in harmony within their particular environment. Everything we do, from selecting earthy textures of materials to positioning a window, starts with a deep respect for nature. By nature, we mean the land, water, life and vegetation. But also, the sun, the moon, mother earth and the divine.

Working with us is an open, collaborative experience. We love working with big-picture thinkers who share our passion for nature, unafraid of pushing the limits of your imagination and enjoy making decisions together. We’re straightforward, business-minded, and completely transparent when it comes to costs and timings.

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians throughout Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander lands where our projects are placed. We recognise their ongoing connection to country and pay our respects to Elders, past, present and future generations.

Sustainability.

We believe it’s our responsibility (as architects and humans) to advocate loudly for sustainable design. We’re committed to the fight against global warming with the practice achieving carbon neutral accreditation in 2020.

Sustainable design means something different to everyone. But to us, it means proactively reducing our environmental footprint wherever we can. Things like: filtering the sun, recycling water, using solar panels, merging natural energy, and natural materials.

Designing with nature in mind guides all our design decisions. Coexisting with nature is a constant undertone to how we live our lives, as the natural environment continues to change and our relationship to it evolves, so must our designs.

Process. How we do it.

We believe in the power of collaboration. In our experience, project outcomes align more directly with their purpose through transparency and openness when working together.

While we acknowledge every project, scale and context is different, here’s some insight into the stages of our design process.

There are many aspects and moving parts to each project, we will support and guide you through each stage to ensure we create and deliver a space you genuinely love — together.

"After moving back to Australia after NYC, we wanted to unpack all our boxes and feel settled in a new family home. We needed a professional architect to help us take our ideas and turn them into a physical reality (within the confines of the code as well as what was possible). Matthew took our ideas, and made them better. His creativity in both design and selection of materials meant we could expand on our initial concepts and turn them into something better than we ever could imagine. Matthew has a wonderful calm which was immediately noticeable during our first meeting. And during the process of building - when everything is happening at once - his calming nature was greatly appreciated.

We are loving our new home. It has brought us great joy to not only have a wonderful home for our growing family but one that we specifically designed with MWA to suit our lifestyle. Whether quiet nights at home (of which there are plenty these days) or having friends over for an afternoon swim, our home has become an extension of us and we feel incredibly grateful for this."
